With 105 teams in both the Varsity and B Division participating in the event, the 2012 CYO Track & Field Finals were held at Serra High School on Wednesday, May 9. Ascension Catholic School took fourth in the league’s overall standing, led by 8th grader, Stefon Goudeau.
Goudeau won both the Boys Varsity 400M and 800M with 54.67 and 2:15.29 respectively and setting new league records. “Our performance this year was outstanding,” said Dr. Karen Kallay, principal Ascension. “ Mr Robert Lucero, our athletic director and 8th grade teacher, has led our sports program to new heights. We hope to continue this success next year.”
Founded in 1938 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet with just four classrooms and a parish hall, Ascension Catholic School has been educating children of all denominations in its inner-city South Los Angeles community for almost 75 years with students in grades Pre-K-8. The school will begin celebrating its 75th Anniversary beginning in September 2012, with events throughout the year.
