Trustey Family STEM Teaching Fellows Press Release
STEM Coalition – Ascension and St. Peter and St. Paul, is proud to announce the selection of four of its teachers— Mr. Castellanos, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Lara and Mr. Mallillin who will participate as Fellows in a University of Notre Dame initiative cultivating educational excellence in the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines.
Mr. Castellanos, Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Lara and Mr. Mallillin will be among the 2016 cohort of the Trustey Family STEM Teaching Fellows. This competitively selected cohort will include representatives of nine schools nationwide. The new cohort will join the 34 teachers from ten schools in its inaugural 2015 cohort.
The fellowship identifies and supports promising educators who seek to improve STEM teaching and learning for all students, especially those traditionally underrepresented in STEM. Fellows will attend three Summer Institutes at Notre Dame, beginning this July, where they will explore the integration of STEM throughout their curriculum, refine their instructional practice, and develop a school-wide STEM plan. Throughout the academic school years, they will receive content-specific coaching for their instructional practice. Ultimately, the fellowship attempts to expand access and opportunities for STEM learning to students throughout schools across the nation.
The Trusty Family STEM Teaching Fellows program is housed in the Notre Dame Center for STEM Education, which is part of the University’s Institute for Educational Initiatives. The Center seeks to help all students, especially the underserved and those enrolled in Catholic schools, engage and excel in the STEM disciplines through research and the translation of research into practice.

El Sr. Castellanos, el Sr. Hernández, el Sr. Lara y el Sr. Mallillin estarán entre los favorecidos de la Familia STEM DEL 2016, Fellows de enseñanza. Esta cohorte seleccionada competitivamente, incluirá a representantes de nueve escuelas del país. El nuevo grupo se unirá a los 34 maestros de diez escuelas en su toma de posesión del 2015.
La beca identifica y apoya a los educadores prometedores que buscan mejorar la enseñanza de STEM y el aprendizaje para todos los estudiantes, especialmente aquellos que tradicionalmente aquellos que son subrepresentados en STEM. Los becados asistirán a tres Institutos de Verano en Notre Dame, a partir del próximo mes de julio, donde se va a explorar la integración de STEM a lo largo de su plan de estudios, perfeccionando sus prácticas de instrucción, y desarrollando un plan de STEM para toda la escuela. A lo largo de los años escolares académicos, recibirán como entrenador de contenido específico para su práctica de enseñanza. Por ultimo, se intenta ampliar el acceso y las oportunidades para el aprendizaje de STEM para los estudiantes en todas las escuelas de todo el país.
El Programa de Enseñanza de La Familia Trustey STEM está ubicado en el Centro Notre Dame de la educación STEM, que forma parte del Instituto de la Universidad de iniciativas educativas. El Centro busca ayudar a todos los estudiantes, especialmente los más necesitados y los matriculados en las escuelas católicas a participar y sobresalir en las disciplinas STEM mediante la investigación y la traducción de la investigación a la práctica.
